About Me
My name is Tracey Sales, I was born in Northern Sydney and grew up in Port Macquarie surrounded by beautiful beaches, rainforests and wildlife which has been a great influence of my work. I like to play with textures, light, movement and patterns and use a variety of mediums (whatever I feel will best express my ideas on the subject at the time). I am currently creating both mixed media and oil paintings.

I studied fashion and textile design in Sydney for four years and loved theatre design which I took as a minor study. This part of my life inspired my figurative drawing including the decorative pattern and textured elements which emerges in my painting. Whilst living in Sydney inspiration also came from beautiful small spaces in the terrace houses of friends which lead to many still-life pieces.

After moving up the coast to the beautiful Smiths lake, my inspiration turned back to nature where I would spend a lot of my time on the beautiful lake and admiring the quirky wildlife.

I have also travelled extensively throughout Europe and South East Asia gaining inspiration for my art. I have painted everything from Flamenco dancers in Spain to beautiful village life in Vietnam where I created many portraits of locals. I love diversity and have an appreciation for all people.

The playful, fluid, dreamlike quality of my art is an expression of my personality and nods to artworks created by family members. Whilst the vibrant colours patterns and texture is worked into nature pieces that portray the personality of my wildlife characters.
